Assistive Technology Training Services

BlindlyAble offers a comprehensive range of assistive technology training services for blind and vision-impaired NDIS participants. All training is delivered one-on-one, tailored to your goals, and paced to suit you. Sessions are available in person across Adelaide metro and via telehealth throughout South Australia.

Training is funded under the NDIS Capacity Building — Improved Daily Living category. I work with self-managed and plan-managed participants.

Screen Reader Training

Screen readers are the foundation of independent digital access for blind and vision-impaired people. I provide training across all major screen readers used in Australia today.

JAWS for Windows

Job Access With Speech (JAWS) is the most widely used professional screen reader for Windows. Training covers navigation, application use, scripting basics, and productivity workflows for work and study.

NVDA for Windows

NonVisual Desktop Access (NVDA) is a free, powerful open-source screen reader for Windows. Training is suitable for participants on any budget and covers the same skill areas as JAWS training.

VoiceOver on macOS

Apple’s built-in screen reader for Mac computers. Training covers system navigation, Safari, Mail, productivity apps, and advanced VoiceOver features for power users.

VoiceOver on iOS and iPadOS

iPhone and iPad accessibility training using VoiceOver. From basic gestures to advanced rotor use, app navigation, and customising accessibility settings for daily life.

TalkBack on Android

Google’s screen reader for Android smartphones and tablets. Training covers gestures, navigation, and using accessible apps on Android devices.

Braille Device Training

BrailleNote Touch and Braille Notetakers

Training on the BrailleNote Touch Plus and equivalent braille notetaker devices. Covers basic operation, file management, internet access, and integration with other assistive technology.

Braille Translation and Embossing

Training in Duxbury Braille Translator (DBT) for producing braille documents. Suitable for participants, families, and carers who want to produce braille materials at home or for study.

Smartphone and Tablet Accessibility Training

Smartphones are essential tools for independence — communication, transport, navigation, banking, and entertainment. I provide practical, goal-focused training on accessible use of iPhone, iPad, and Android devices for participants at any skill level, from complete beginners to those wanting advanced skills.

Computer Skills with Assistive Technology

Building confidence with computers opens doors to employment, study, and daily independence. Training covers:

  • Windows and macOS with JAWS, NVDA, or VoiceOver
  • Microsoft Word — document creation, formatting, navigation
  • Microsoft Excel — accessible spreadsheet use
  • Microsoft PowerPoint — creating and presenting accessible slides
  • Email setup and management (Outlook, Gmail, Apple Mail)
  • Web browsing skills and online research
  • Online safety, password management, and scam awareness

Smart Home Technology Setup and Training

Smart home technology can significantly increase independence at home for people with vision impairment. I help participants set up and use accessible smart home devices — from voice assistants to smart lighting, locks, and appliances — in ways that genuinely support daily life.

Audio Production Introduction

An accessible introduction to audio recording and production for participants interested in developing creative or vocational skills. Covers accessible digital audio workstation tools and basic production techniques using screen-reader-compatible software.

Multilingual Training

All services are available in English, Urdu, Punjabi, and Hindi. If you or the participant you support would benefit from training in one of these languages, please mention this when you get in touch.
