About Muhammad Furqan

Assistive technology trainer, lifelong AT user, and founder of BlindlyAble.

Lived Experience First

I have been using assistive technology since 2001 — long before I became a trainer. I started with screen readers on Windows, added mobile screen readers in 2009, moved to iPhone VoiceOver in 2015, and expanded to Mac VoiceOver in 2022. This is not background knowledge for me. It is how I read, write, work, and navigate the world every day.

When I work with a participant, I am not reading from a manual. I am sharing real skills from real experience — including the frustrations, the workarounds, and the moments when technology genuinely transforms what is possible.

Professional Background

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Journalism from the University of Punjab, Lahore. My professional background in assistive technology training spans more than a decade across three countries.

True Sight Organization for the Blind, Rawalpindi, Pakistan

From 2012 to 2017, I worked as Course Coordinator, delivering assistive technology and computer skills training to blind and vision-impaired students. I managed classrooms, developed curriculum, and supported students from beginner to advanced level.

National Library and Resource Centre, Islamabad

As Lecturer in Information Technology for People with Disabilities, I taught accessible computing to library users and students, supporting access to digital resources for the blind community.

Pakistan Television Corporation

For five years I worked as Resource Person in Computer Application at PTV, supporting staff and productions with computing and digital skills in a professional broadcast environment.

In Australia

Since arriving in Australia and settling in Morphett Vale, South Australia, I have built on my international experience to establish BlindlyAble as an NDIS assistive technology training service for the Adelaide community and beyond.

I am currently completing a Certificate IV in Assistive Technology Mentoring (10909NAT), the nationally recognised qualification in this field.

Community Involvement

I am an active community volunteer. My current and recent volunteer roles include:

  • Guide Dogs SA — Special Interest Group volunteer
  • Salvation Army volunteer
  • Red Cross volunteer
  • Humanity First volunteer
  • Onkaparinga and Marion Council tree planting programs (2019 to present)

I believe that independence is built in community — and I try to live that belief beyond my professional work.

NDIS Credentials

  • Unregistered NDIS provider operating under the NDIS Code of Conduct
  • Current Worker Screening Check
  • Serves self-managed and plan-managed participants
  • Funding category: Capacity Building — Improved Daily Living
  • Currently completing Certificate IV in Assistive Technology Mentoring (10909NAT)
